Two Day Tour - Guilin
This tour is available daily and the start time can be adjusted at your request. Our tours typically start between 7am and 8:30am with your tour guide picking you up in the lobby of your hotel. At the end of the day we'll return you to your hotel.
Note: for the Li River cruise portion - a private tour doesn't mean you will be the only group on the boat, but your dedicated guide will be with you to describe the sites.
There are many different types of boats (3 star, 4 star, bamboo) that are available for the river cruise. Our standard is a 4 star cruise boat, please let us know if you wish to arrange for a different type of boat.
We'll start our day with a 2 hr boat cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. This is widely considered the most picturesque section of the Li River where you will see the beautiful green hills shrouded in mist and fog or a perfect mirror image of the hills on the water, depending on the time of year. Along the river you will see stunning karst hills, bamboo groves, and villages.
The areas surrounding Yangshuo are famous for the beautiful scenery along the rivers, the mountain peaks and local villages. It is your choice if you'd like to tour the area on a bicycle or by car. If you chose to explore on a bicycle, we'll start our tour on the outskirts of Yangshuo to avoid the difficult and busy city streets.
Once outside the city there are rice fields, bamboo groves and mile of mountain peaks alongside the winding river. It is a peaceful area and a wonderful place to relax for an afternoon. We'll stop and visit with some of the locals and you'll have an opportunity to experience rural China that is so different than the big cities.
The Reed Flute Cave is a limestone cave full of amazing rock formations and cave corals. The cave is over 180 million years old and is one of the most interesting attractions in Guilin. Inside the cave are more than 70 ancient inscriptions that date back to 720 AD. Multi coloured lighting has been installed to bring out the true brilliance of the rock formations.
Next we'll visit Elephant Trunk Hill, which is the symbol of Guilin city. It looks like a giant elephant drinking water with its trunk! The cave between the elephant's trunk and body is know as the Water Moon Cave. At night, the cave and its reflection together form a bright moon on the river. There are more than 50 ancient inscriptions in the Moon Cave. There is also another cave on the hillside that forms the elephant's eye.
There are stone stairs that wind up the hill and a viewing platform offers a panoramic view of Guilin. Part way up the hill is a beautiful garden and pavilion. A great place to stop and take a rest as you make your way to the top.
At the bottom of the hill are two caves to explore and an unusual rock formation called the Sword Testing Rock. In the caves are numerous Buddha statues and ancient inscriptions.
Half of the Fubo Hill sits in the river while the other half is on land. The section of the hill that is in the river acts as a break water, hence the hill's other name, "Wave Subduing hill".
To end the day we can drop you off at your hotel or at the ZhengYang walking street to enjoy the evening on your own. The ZhengYang walking street is in the heart of Guilin and was one reserved for noblemen and princes during the Ming Dynasty. It is considered to have been the first street in Western China. ZhengYang is a perfect place to end your day and take a leisurely stroll among the shops and enjoy the local cuisine.
