Two Day Tour - Xian
This tour is available daily and the start time can be adjusted at your request. Our tours typically start between 7am and 8:30am with your tour guide picking you up in the lobby of your hotel. At the end of each day we'll return you to your hotel.
We'll start our day by spending 2 hours exploring the sites in and around the Terracotta Army. The army was part of an elaborate mausoleum created to accompany the first emperor of China into the afterlife. It contains as many as 8,000 figures, but the exact total may never be known as excavation of the area has been halted. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this world wonder with your own eyes. We'll then have lunch and head to Muslim Street.
Muslim Street is located in the very heart of downtown Xian and is another highlight of the city. You will see the locals cooking street food like kebabs and pickled beef as well as selling dried fruit. It is a great place for a leisurely stroll to take in the local culture. We'll spend approximately 1 hour exploring this area.
Next we'll visit the Great Mosque of Xian is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China and its location is northwest of the Drum Tower. According to historical records engraved on a stone tablet inside, it was built in 742 during the Tang Dynasty. This was a result of Islam being introduced into Northwest China by Arab merchants and travellers from Persia and Afghanistan during the mid-7th century. Their descendants became the Chinese Muslim of today and played an important role in the unifications of China during the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. Hence, other mosques were also built to honour them. We'll spend approximately 1 hour exploring the Mosque.
We'll ten spend an hour at the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda which was originally built in 652 during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty. It functioned to collect Buddhist treasures that were taken from India. Over the years the structure has been damaged by natural forces and rebuilt many times. The pagoda currently stands at a height of 64 m (210 ft) tall and from the top it offers beautiful views over the city.
We'll start our day by exploring the Shanxi museum for 3 hours. The museum houses a world class collection of ancient relics and covers an area of over 70,000 square meters. The building was styled after the grand and elegant architecture from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The museum is named after the province of Shanxi, which Xian is part of.
After lunch, we'll spend 2 hours exploring Xian's city wall which is the most complete wall that has survived in China and is one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Ancient weapons did not have the power to break through the wall and the only way for an enemy to enter the city was by attacking the gate. You'll have the opportunity to walk along the top of the wall or rent a bicycle to make the most of the time that we'll spend on the wall.
